John Coulson Director of Coulson Management Consultants (CMC) and his associates have undertaken business improvement projects for private and public sector organisations in a wide range of sectors, with a specific focus on agribusiness, manufacturing, information and communications technology, sustainability and professional service organisations.
They have assisted over 100 companies to undertake strategic direction setting, business planning, major cost management improvements, technology commercialization and export market development.
John and his colleagues have a particular interest in working with organizations committed to developing innovative solutions for clients - and over the past 10 years have guided a number of companies to achieve significant growth in revenue and profitability, through ongoing involvement in business planning, special projects and participation in their business advisory boards. Victorian Government Regulatory Agency –
Agricultural Sector

John Coulson recently completed a performance review of this agency’s finance function – the assignment included a current process review that assessed the potential for internal and outsourcing efficiency improvements, quantified major resource savings and benefits from achieving internal efficiency gains and outsourcing functions, and working with the management team to achieve buy-in.

Now commencing development  and then implementation of an activity based costing system – some of the resource savings identified for individual finance team members (refer details of finance review assignment above) are being used to work with John Coulson and his experienced ABC team to develop an ABC system for the agency – a major objective of this assignment is to provide more precision in the costing of services and in the related setting of fees for the agency’s disparate client base.

Victorian Government Regulatory Agency –
Education Sector

John Coulson and his team developed and then implemented  an activity based costing system for this agency – the assignment provided much greater precision in the costing of services and in the setting of proposed fees for FY 2013 – the results were used to inform preparation of a Risk Impact Statement for a greater than CPI fee increase proposal.

Recently John Coulson and his ABC team have been engaged by this agency to undertake process mapping and costing of a potential new regulatory service arising from a COAG national standard setting process. The work is designed to provide the Secretary of their department with estimates of both the Establishment Cost, and the Annual Operating Cost, of introducing the new service under a range of demand scenarios.
